halloween part 2

we celebrated halloween twice this year. first time around we were witches. second time around we were harry potter characters. of course we have a family theme each year, and since kylie was visiting we were sure to include her in the festivities. she made a great hufflepuff don't ya think? ^^ [that face]

drew dressed up as "hairy" potter. he thinks he is pretty clever. i was actually impressed with his bubble letters and laughed as he cut his shirt and glued them on like an elementary school project. good job drew.

clearly i am hermione. i always thought i had hair like hermione. its thick and crazy, but for some reason on halloween my hair was being silky and straight--which never happens! but i'll take it.

kylie was a hufflepuff. i used to think she was nerdy in high school always reading harry potter books. looks like it paid off.

jimmy was a rufferee. he is probably the best clothes wearing dog on the planet. he didn't really go with our harry potter theme, but he owned that costume.

van man was a snitch. so cute, right? my little golden flying ball. i really wanted him to be fat and round, but my ideas just weren't working. diy costumes sometimes don't turn out how you imagined, but i think it's always worth it.

i spent halloween day making van's snitch costume. i went to the thrift store and bought a lion costume, then cut off the tail and mane. i also bought a miley cyrus jacket and used the gold fabric for the wings, collar, and headband. this was way easier than buying fabric and i simply just sewed it all together! the headband was a last minute detail and i wish it could have been a hat to avoid confusion of a disco baby, but looking at him all day in his golden costume made me happy.

halloween night we went to our friend's harry potter themed party and enjoyed some butter beer and harry potter-y games. we left the snitch at grandma's so he could catch some sleep, but we still had a super fun first halloween together. hope you all had a happy halloween!
