how could something so small make your heart melt? especially something as mundane as a sock. maybe its because we all know what fits into that tiny sock, and picturing a sweet innocent baby is really what makes our hearts melt.
i didn't even notice one of van's socks was missing in these pictures until i stumbled upon its mate on the porch of our family cabin. i couldn't help but take a picture for memory's sake. there are so many times i am doing laundry and i notice another missing baby sock! if i'm lucky i find one later lost in some sheets or misplaced in a drawer, but more often than not the missing sock remains a mystery and nowhere to be found- which makes for a frustrating quandary.
a life lesson i learned from my mom who learned it from her mom- don't ever wish time away. there will be days that you just want to be over. there will be phases your kids go through that you just want to end. and there will be mistakes made you wish never happened. but one day you will wake up and you will realize life is short. you can't take back time.
i choose to live and learn. i choose to soak in every moment i can with van- even if that means the dishes get neglected or my emails aren't replied to. because before i know it he will be big and grown, and when i stumble upon another one of his missing socks i won't be huffing a sigh of relief. i will be holding back the tears that it was finally found.
