I feel like lately my blog is turning into a psychological journal, but I love sharing what I'm learning and it just makes SO MUCH SENSE.
Yesterday we talked about physical, spiritual, and mental wellness. In 2009 my new years resolution was to find that balance. At the time, I didn't even know a whole lot about this. It's funny how over a year later I learn about it, and what I was yearning for then is finally starting to make sense.
Wellness overall as a being relies on self responsibility and love. If our spiritual wellness is good, mental and physical wellness will fall into place.
Concerning physical wellness: get your sleep, exercise, diet if necessary, remember to take your vitamins, don't overeat, being satisfied is different than being full. I eat way too much ice-cream and sometimes I eat until my belly pokes out, don't do that, haha. Almost always lacking in this area leads to mental problems.
Concerning spiritual wellness: It's basic, keep the commandments. To understand true happiness we must experience sorrow. We are so blessed to be members of the LDS church because we have that eternal perspective to get through the bumps in the road. Our bodies are simply a cover for our spirits, and if we can keep our spirit happy, everything else goes better. Finding the connection between the mind, body, and spirit is so powerful to your wellness. This is why I want to start yoga, it helps everything.
Concerning mental wellness: I will state five main points. Live consistent with your values. Monitor your thoughts, the adversary can throw in trash and lies and you can literally think yourself into being. Assume responsibility for yourself, as long as you blame others you won't progress. Stop looking in the mirror, start looking out the window. This can be interpreted many ways, but basically it means the more you serve the more substance there is to you and along the way yourself is taken care of. I love that statement. Finally, learn to work and work to learn. I like the analogy of working to make a beautiful garden, if you don't work hard it will grow weeds. Like in our life if you don't work hard the weeds will grow, and the weeds are the mental illness.
Let this just be a reminder to you to find that balance between your physical, spiritual, and mental wellness. You will be a much more peaceful and happy being! Don't forget to take care of yourself, so you can take better care of others.
