Van's Birthday Part 2: The Cake Smash

^^before the cake smash
^^i'm supposed to do what?!
^^taking his finger for a dip
^^thinking...
^^this was a dumb idea, mom
^^making some progress
^^the best it's gonna get

Remember how I said baby's firsts aren't always as great as they are hyped up to be? Well, the cake smash was second on that list. Van was not a fan!

On Van's real birthday (January 15th) I let him "destroy" his VW bus cake. I thought he would be eager to dig in and eat it all, but instead he dragged his fingers across the top and then licked each one individually. Since when did babies have such good manners? Van did not like having fists (or feet) full of cake. I'm not gonna lie, we helped him get the party started and shoved cake into his mouth. He didn't mind that part!

Happy Birthday, Van. Maybe we'll have better luck next year!

  1. Surprisingly this is the case of most babies I've done cake smash sessions for. Caiden is the only exception. He dug into that cake and ate it like a ravenous wolf. It was shocking. But most babies tend to just pick at it. My sister, Nikki, smeared cake all over her daughter to the point where Rilee was crying because she didn't want to get dirty. Van is not alone.
