camping

it was the weekend and we wanted to take van camping for the first time. i packed his lumberjack jammies, hat, flannel, and tevas to start things out right. we made a couple stops for van man before finding our camp spot, and by the time we should have been setting up camp it got dark. our plans (or lack of plans) quickly changed to parking in my family cabin's yard and calling it home for the night.

we pitched a fire and watched van's eyes light up as he stared into the flames. i bundled him up in a blanket and held him close. jimmy sat at a distance looking like a creepy ghost in the moonlight while drew teased me about forgetting to pack s'mores. before too long we crawled into our family size sleeping bag and slept in the vanagon to keep warm.

it was a long night. van woke up every two hours for milk and maybe some comfort, while i tried my best to not be afraid of the open windows surrounding us. the next morning we both were a bit groggy. our plan for a family hike died quickly so we opted for fishing instead. by afternoon we were back home wishing the weekend didn't have to end.

  2. look at you, getting fancy with your words! love.

and meg, that first photo literally stole my heart. TO DIE FOR! i can't handle those blue eyes! sooo cute. you guys need to camp at tripod meadows, that's before the cabin. i think it's cute you always end up in the cabin yard. that's kinda sweet. i can't wait to get a vw bus! sounds like the night was long/miserable haha...i bet you were a zombie. i would've pictured red eyes in the window and had a small panic attack haha
