yesterday i went to me'me's and she taught me how to paint. after going to france and visiting relatives, i felt inspired to learn the art. painting seems to run in the family. me'me' is a great painter (even though she won't admit it), her brother and his wife paint, my mom even paints! it got me thinking... well i like to crochet and make other stuff so why not paint?
this has given me the perfect opportunity to spend more time with my grandma. it's even more special because she is sharing with me something she loves to do. my grandma has been a widow for some time now, and painting is her therapy. she says it is the only thing she can do where she doesn't think about anything else! and she is right. when i sat down to paint my first watercolor i was completely focused on that and nothing else. even if my bushes and trees look like ridiculous blobs, it was fun to try something new. painting is like coloring for old people! and i used to spend hours coloring when i was little. i really think this is something i can enjoy.
when i got to me'me's she had all her paint supplies laid out with classical music playing in the background. it was so sweet to see! she explained to me the details of each brush, type of paper, paint colors, and watercolor techniques. i have a lot to learn! she explained how once you start to paint you look at the world around you differently. you begin to realize how many different shades of green there are, and how the light hits the trees. it's beautiful really. me'me' told me since i already know photography it will help in my painting. we'll see about that. i am terrible at drawing and my sense of composition seems to go out the window with a paintbrush.
i am excited to get my own supplies and start practicing. hopefully the next time i paint with me'me' she will be a little more impressed! someday i would like my own room for all my crafts, but for now i will make do with the small things.

sis i love it, i think it looks so amazing! wonderful and cute background to ;) so glad you are spending good time with meme, makes me so happy. soak it up for all of us. love you sis!
ReplyDeletei am so inspired. this really has touched my heart, meggie. the image in my mind of you painting with the sun coming in with me me by your side and classical music makes my heart sing. so many good memories. joining me me in that element is the best thing you can do to strengthen your bond with her. thank you for doing this on behalf of all the triplet sissies. we love learning with you. your art is beautiful. i would love to try my hand at it too, now - you've inspired me meggie. what a fun adventure. i'd kill for something that is literally focused in on NOTHING else but the art. even photography i am always distracted by something... i could use this type of therapy.
ReplyDeleteGood job, Meg! And I'm sure Meme LOVED it, too! Can't wait to see more of your art. (Also, just got caught up on all your adventures...you are one cute girl!) Love ya!
ReplyDeleteMegan your me'me sounds like such a sweetheart :) and what a great way to bond and get closer! Watercolors are hard!! But you did a LOVELY job. My favorite part is the sweet flowers in the bottom right corner. Keep it up and share more paintings you do! Heck! Add some to your etsy shop! They'd sell like hot cakes I have no doubt :)
