I always knew I loved soft cuddly dogs.
I didn't realize how much Drew loved them too.
But the more we dog sit and borrow dogs for short periods of time, the more I know the feeling is mutual.
It all started with Eleanor. Eleanor was a three legged chihuahua-miniature doberman mix. We loved her right away. She belonged to our friend who saved her from the pound, but his apartment didn't allow animals so we got to watch her for a while. Unfortunately, not after too long he gave her to a family with kids who wanted a dog. We were sad to say goodbye, but knew they would love her too. Eleanor was a low maintenance dog. She loved to sleep between Drew and I and we took her everywhere. She fit perfectly in my purse and would go with us on bike rides in there and even shopping with me. Everybody loved Eleanor, maybe because she had three legs.

Then I started to miss having a dog friend. So we borrowed Drew's parents dog Buffy for a month or so. Buffy was sweet and old. Every morning Buffy and I would go running, but eventually she would get tired so we would walk the rest of the way home. Buffy was fluffy and lovable and whenever I took her to the park people would flock her. That's also a fun things about dogs, you get to meet a lot of people you wouldn't meet if you only ran with an iPod. Fluffy Buffy was fun to care for while it lasted, and luckily we still get to see her whenever we visit Drew's parents in Utah.
And then there's this cute little guy, Nixon. He belongs to our friends Miles and Chelsey Heidorn. As I type this Nixon is sitting on my lap, not this lap top. He is licking my fingers making it very hard to type. Nixon loves attention and is always wanting to play. He will grab his leash and come up to us with his cute puppy eyes ready to go explore! When I'm trying to get ready he jumps up from behind me and puts his cute little paws on the counter waiting for me. Not very patiently, but I eventually have to give in. My favorite thing about Nixon is all the kisses he gives, he loves to lick everything.
There's something about a cute warm furry body snuggling against you that you can't help but adore. Drew and I love dogs, and we are excited for the day we get one of our own. Until then, we are happy to dog sit! They each have their own personalities and it makes life fun. The day I open a Christmas present with a puppy inside, preferably a cocker spaniel, popping his cute little head out with a big red bow tied around his neck, will be the best day of my life.

I WANT ONE! i wonder if drew will get you one this yr!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I got a puppy as a gift from his parents when we were engaged, but we haven't been able to bring him up to school with us yet. He drove all the way from Florida to Arizona with us and lives with my parents, at least until we get an apartment where we can have a pet. I can't wait because he's the best dog ever- so friendly and cute. Dogs are great!
ReplyDeleteHahaha so funny! I love the 3 legged dog! Fun that you guys have a place big enough and that allows you to have a dog in there!
