After 21 days in the NICU, Liv broke 4 pounds and was finally learning how to nurse. We practiced what they call "recreational nursing" for weeks before she was able to build the strength to even stay awake during a feeding. Meanwhile I was pumping like a crazy lady and doing everything from herbal supplements to essential oils to help boost my milk supply. At three weeks old she was about the size I was when I was born [at 32 weeks gestation].
It was so hard leaving my baby girl every day, but I knew Liv was where she needed to be. We ended up putting pictures of us in her crib so she could feel more at home until we could truly be together as a family.
