bogus basin hike

saturday morning rolled around. i could hear drew gently talking to baby with his head resting on my belly. we were still snuggling in bed, with jimmy between us of course, and i hadn't yet opened my eyes. i sneakily began to listen as he whispered his saturday plans to our baby boy.

we packed our picnic, boiled some hot chocolate, and put on our hiking shoes. by lunch time we were headed up the windy road to the tippy top of the mountain we call bogus basin. we parked along the side of the road somewhere and trudged our way into the forest.

we found the perfect place to sit and enjoy some snacks, surrounded by trees and a blanket of pine needles. drew came up with the brilliant idea of pine cone baseball, and this is where i learned he secretly wished he played growing up. after the points didn't matter, we walked up and down the mountain trails. i found myself huffing and puffing, feeling a bit embarrassed by my shortness of breath. hub was patient with my moments of rest on tree stumps for temporary chairs, and sat in the dirt below me.

before we knew it the sun was beginning to creep behind the mountains so we headed back to the car. as we reached the trail end, i couldn't help but think how fun this will be when we have a little baby to take along with us. everything will be a new adventure.

  3. What a lovely hike! And I can sympathize with the hard-to-breathe-while-pregnant-and-hiking problem. Remember our hike to 4th of July Lake? It was only a mile, but pretty steep and I was about 6 weeks away from having the baby. Tried to tough it out, but I got out of breath SO fast. Oh...and started having contractions. So be careful. HA!
