the beach house

 last weekend we headed to depoe bay for a family vacation.

we stayed in a beautiful beach house right in front of great surf.

it was fun to be at the ocean with my family just like the good old days.

my dad has always been really good at planning yearly vacations,

and every once in a while we would make a special trip to the oregon coast.

 we missed not having ky and spence there and lisa and her hub to be chase. 

hopefully next time they can come, but this time we enjoyed our weekend getaway with the family we got.

 we took a boat ride to see whales.

but didn't see any whales.

instead we saw birdies, sea lions and an porpoise! 

drew got a little sea sick, but the rest of us were loving the ocean breeze and wavy ride.

 mama bought tie dye kites for everybody to fly.
drew could fly a kite with his eyes closed.

jedd broke a fly family record of flying the highest kite.

and even jimmy could fly a kite!

 during our stay at the beach house it was my sister in law's birthday.

she turned 30 and didn't want anything for her birthday, especially not a celebration.

so we threw her a surprise party and went over the top in decoration.

i think deep down she liked it.

 we also spent time looking at tide pools searching for star fish and butt holes.

and by butt holes i mean the squishy round things that look like sponges.

the girlies liked to play on the beach,
but bennett was scared of the waves and harper didn't like the texture of sand.

with some training they warmed up and walked barefoot and splashed in the waves!

 my other sister in law katrina is pregnant.

she has a sweet baby boy growing in her belly, and i can't wait to meet him.

i crocheted him a cute little beanie with matching slippers.

our last night at the beach house was spent around a fire on the beach.

we roasted mallows and ate s'mores while discussing plans for next year's oregon coast trip.
