TURTLE TIME

On Monday, Drew told me he'd be home a little late from work. I had no idea what he was doing but he said he had a little surprise! As the hours go by with me waiting at home antsy in my pantsy, I was trying to guess what the surprise could be and my best bet was a romantic dinner or something.
Finally, he comes home and asked me to open the door, and to my delight, he was holding a TANK WITH TWO CUTE TURTLES IN IT--- BEST SURPRISE EVER!

In Hawaii I fell in love with turtles and we had talked about owning a pet turtle. We went to the pet store once but were sad to find out a turtle, cage, food, and supplies added up to almost $100!

But once again, Drew has turned my frown upside down and got a steal of a deal online for two turtles AND a tank for thirty dollars! Thanks mama for the birthday money, enabling Drew to get us our first pets.... who surely will never be forgotten and bring many smiles to our faces! Especially mine.

Drew thinks I will be a worryish mom and he will have to calm me down because I am always watching the turtles and noticing Layla struggling to swim under our new floating rock, or poor Mao who seems sick and motionless, just pooping a lot. Mao poops a lot! Drew says that's "normal" turtle behavior. What is "normal" turtle behavior anyway? I think he might still be getting used to his new home, but if he doesn't seem more turtley to me in a week I might wonder if he's sick. So what, I'm a worry wart!

Turtles are fun. I like hearing them 'splash' around and keep me company when Drew is at work. After holding them I have to wash my hands, they're kinda algae-ish and stinky. I read about turtles online and learned it's best to hold them from underneath because they don't like the feeling of swimming in the air, even though it's cute! This isn't the greatest example of doing that.

So there you have it, our newest family members, the crazy red-eared slider turtle LAYLA and the lazy Chinese box turtle CHAIRMAN MAO. We love them!

  3. Chairman Mao has the cutest little turtle smile on his face! I love it. So cute! I had a pet turtle once. It was the size of a quarter. It was sophomore year of college. It died after 1 week of my mom watching it. FYI don't clean your turtles tank with windex. It kills them.
